Amazon Sumerian: A New Platform for Quickly Building AR/VR/3D Apps
Amazon has launched Amazon Sumerian, a new platform allowing developers to rapidly create and host augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and 3D applications for smartphones, tablets, head-mounted displays, digital signage, and web browsers. Requiring minimal coding, this browser-based service works on any browser supporting WebGL or WebVR graphics rendering. Sumerian offers features like designing in AR, VR, and 3D immersive environments using pre-built object libraries, creating animated characters via Lex speech recognition and Polly natural language understanding, and deploying apps to various hardware. It also integrates with third-party developers, including Mapbox for location services. Currently in preview, Sumerian is free to use (charges apply only for storage). Amazon aims to simplify AR/VR/3D app development, making it faster and more cost-effective for developers.
