Unity CEO: Augmented Reality is Coming to Smartphones Soon
In a recent interview with TechCrunch, Unity CEO John Riccitiello discussed the future of augmented reality (AR) and its impact on mobile devices. While the consumer side of VR has been slow to take off due to high costs and limited functionality, Riccitiello believes that AR will be a game-changer.
He predicts that within a year, consumers will be able to use their phones to perform tasks such as scanning shoes to find prices and locations, virtually try on clothes, and view LinkedIn profiles of acquaintances. He also discusses the potential for privacy concerns with AR apps, stating that it is something that companies and regulatory agencies will need to address.
Riccitiello also talked about the progress of AR development, stating that mobile phones are getting closer to the processing power of consoles. He expects them to be comparable to the PlayStation 4 by 2020.
