Salesforce Makes Einstein AI Algorithms Available to Third-Party Developers

Salesforce has announced the launch of three AI tools for developers at the TrailheaDX developer conference. These algorithms, which fall under the new Einstein Platform Services, empower third-party developers to incorporate Einstein intelligence into applications built upon the Salesforce platform. These new services include sentiment and intent analysis along with advanced image recognition analysis tools, which, when trained properly, can count objects and even recognize attributes such as color or size. The three services open up a world of possibilities for developers to tap into these advanced technologies and build sophisticated functionality into apps built on top of Salesforce.

The Einstein Intent tool allows programmers to understand the intent of customer inquiries, which could streamline lead routing, escalate service cases, or personalize marketing campaigns through custom apps. This tool proves particularly useful for prioritizing customer service inquiries.

The Einstein Sentiment tool leverages advanced technology to understand sentiment, even in cases where the wording isn’t entirely clear. Traditional keyword-based tools struggle with complex wording or sarcasm, but this tool is designed to handle these nuances. Richard Socher, chief data scientist at Salesforce, who joined the company through the acquisition of MetaMind last April, emphasizes the power of deep learning in understanding complex wording.

The most remarkable of the three announced algorithms, Einstein Object Detection, empowers developers to train the tool to recognize objects and detailed attributes about them, including the number. This feature proves valuable when developing inventory applications, but its applications extend beyond that, including measuring share of shelf in a store or identifying models for customer service calls.

Since its introduction last fall, the Salesforce artificial intelligence platform, Einstein, has focused on making the core Salesforce products more intelligent. However, the company has expanded its focus by exposing some of this functionality to developers who build applications on top of Salesforce. These tools likely require some machine learning and model building skills, but they offer a base set of functionality that gives programmers who might not otherwise consider artificial intelligence a significant head start.
